WHEREAS the public schools system nationwide is in a state of collapse, failing to properly educate most of our students, to the point that our colleges spend two years teaching what our high schools failed to teach; and
WHEREAS the average graduate today faces fewer employment opportunities than any time in the past 60 years, and our graduates have few or no skills to qualify them to obtain those jobs; and
WHEREAS there remains a shortage of skilled craftsmen in the building trades and other industries,
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that we, the People, call upon the Texas legislature to mandate vocational and industrial education for all students, beginning in grade seven and continuing through twelfth grade; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that companies and employers who are willing to provide internship opportunities to students be allowed to do so, and receive a concomitant break on the school portion of their property taxes.
