Resolution – 17th Amendment

WHEREAS, the Founding Fathers formed a federation of sovereign States, all of whose laws were to be written by a Congress representing two parties – the States and the People; and

WHEREAS those two parties to the contract then formed a Management Team, called the Executive Branch, to carry out the mutual will of the People and the States; and

WHEREAS the contract was broken and the States were rendered powerless by the passage of the 17th Amendment to the Constitution (direct election of senators); and

WHEREAS the Executive Branch, in the century following the passage of the 17th Amendment has steadily grown more powerful, until today it feels at liberty to make laws, regulations and proclamations as if it were royalty; be it

THEREFORE RESOLVED that we the People call upon the Texas legislature to REPEAL the 17th Amendment and restore the States to their rightful position as partners in a federated republic.
