The Border Crisis – a Solution

There is no doubt that the “Border Crisis” is real, and there is no doubt as to several of the causes.  Money from George Soros and his ilk is financing some of the caravans moving on our borders.  Thousands are getting across every day that are not apprehended, as our Border Patrol is overwhelmed with numbers.  They are letting many of them go, with a paper request that they come back and be processed later!

Here are a few steps that could easily bring this crisis to a halt.  (I’m not saying they would be easy to legislate, but I am saying that IF we had to will to stop the problem, these are some steps that would change the situation rapidly and effectively.)

End all welfare to all who are not US Citizens.  By that I mean ALL benefits.  No welfare, no rent subsidies, no WIC, no aid of any kind.  No free schools, no free emergency room service.

This one step turns off the Welfare Magnet that is drawing most criminal immigrants.  When they can’t get the loot, when the goose that’s been laying the golden egg is dead, the caravans will dry up.

Set up tent cities on the US side of the Mexican border, in plain sight of the Mexicans, across from major crossing points.  Using captured mojados,1 as they call themselves, to do much of the labor, set up a tent city to hold, say, 10,000 people per “Processing Camp.”  Immediately segregate the women from the men, for safety purposes.  Children with the women.  With strict armed security, give a medical check-up, and quarantine those with communicable diseases.  Take all relevant biometric information, including DNA and build a database on each one.  Implant a chip in each one.

Now, here’s the humane part.  Those with no prior record, first timers, can be offered an amnesty.  That means that now we know who they are, and they are in the computer, so we will give them one chance to walk out, get on the bus, and go home to Mexico, or even fly them home to countries farther away.  This will reduce the numbers considerably.  We can even give them a chance to go get in line and do it right. BUT if we ever catch them again, it’s one year in Guantanamo Bay, then deportation to their home country, and they can never apply for entry to this country again, for any reason.  They will face stiffer penalties if they are ever caught again.

Repeat offenders and druggies and gang members and those with outstanding warrants need to be shipped to wherever the warrants call them, or to Guantanamo Bay for incarceration.  Proven coyotes should face 20 years at hard labor.

Those with work skills might be allowed to work in Processing Centers for a period of time, for room and board only, and then eventually be allowed to apply for citizenship, upon speaking English and passing standard citizenship requirements.

Those who are true political refugees should be handled on a case-by-case basis.  The same for those truly fleeing violence in their home countries.  They will need solid evidence, not just a good story.  They might be granted emergency visas.  They would NOT be given financial assistance – they will need a sponsor who is an American citizen, and post a bond before being released.

Arrest illegals when apprehended for any reason, and immediately process them for deportation with 48 hours.  This gives them time to make the decision whether they want to be separated from their families.  (It will be a voluntary decision that way.  They can take them with them to their home country.)

Any illegal person who attempts to register to vote shall go to county jail for one year.  Any person who knowing registers an illegal person to vote shall go to prison for five years, per county, to run consecutively.

No illegal person shall be allowed to purchase property, register an automobile, open a bank account, or engage in any legally binding contract under any circumstances.

Establish a bounty system for those who turn in illegal aliens.  Let’s say a modest $100 per head for information leading to the arrest and deportation of each illegal.  You may think that could be expensive, but not so.  Just deduct that money, along with fees for processing, litigation, transportation, etc., from the welfare, oops, I mean “foreign aid” their home country would have gotten.  (And within one year, those countries will be clamping down or those organizing caravans and on the “coyotes” who are costing them money.)

Start an information campaign to Latin America, every country, showing what happens when people try to cross our border.  Show pictures of the “rape trees” and conduct interviews with women who have been there.  Show “coyotes” and what they do – how they charge, say, $5,000 per head for “safe conduct” and then abandon them in the desert, or worse, rape and rob and sometimes murder their own clients.  Show pictures of skeletons found in the desert.  Show children barely alive beside dead mothers.  The brutal reality should be shown to all who think just getting across that border is tantamount to getting to Paradise.

If it were up to me, we would end all welfare, period, but I’m trying to be a moderate here, and some times radical surgery is too much for the patient to survive.  Ending all welfare all at once would cause a civil war.  It needs to be phased out.

1 Mojados = “wets”.  Formerly called “wetbacks” in English, in the days before Political Correctness.
