as Judge Robert Bork termed it.1

Romulus and Remus were the legendary founders of what became Rome, and then an empire, while the age of Cicero was there to preside over its collapse. The parallels of the USA to Rome are legion (no pun intended), their “Bread and Circuses” being deficient only in technology to our “Welfare and Sports” today.

If you have a burning desire to run for political office, you are probably not what our country needs. We need selfless men and women who are willing to take up the cross of sacrifice – to give of their time and energy and thought for one single reason – to make sure that our children and grandchildren live in a nation of more freedom and maximum opportunity to succeed in life. Such a candidate must resist the siren call to use government to improve the lot of any individual or any class of citizens. If you want to help one class, at the expense of another class, you are an enemy of freedom, you are a Statist, and you are the antithesis of what this country needs.

Equal Opportunity for All means the freedom to fail is just as important as the freedom to succeed. It means that taxpayers will not be required to support those who cannot succeed on their own.

When you are sworn into office, you are required to take an Oath of Allegiance. To what? It’s not to a flag. It’s not to a monarch, nor to a president. It’s not to “prosperity” or “equality” or “the brotherhood of man”. No, you take an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States.

I have heard candidates criticize their competition for this concept, calling them “Constitution thumpers”. What an astonishing claim! These so-called “conservative Republicans” were offended that one of the candidates in their race called upon a return to the Constitution, when (a) they were hoping to win a race that would have required them to take that oath, and (b) they clearly had never spent enough time studying it to know what it is all about.

If someone goes into a marriage complaining about their partner insisting on being faithful to the wedding vows, wouldn’t you think that might bode poorly for the chances of a good marriage? So it is with those who deride Americans who still believe the Constitution should be followed strictly.

Those candidates not willing to stand up in public and assert their determination to return all levels of government to their constitutional limitations are not fit to serve in public office.

“Those candidates not willing to stand up in public and commit to returning all levels of government to their constitutional limitations are not fit to serve in public office.”

Many people claim that they are running in order to “help the poor”, which means every time that they are running to “soak the rich” and to use the power of the State to redistribute the income of those who have wealth, giving it to those who don’t. While Lyndon Johnson made the phrase popular, most Americans have yet to figure out that LBJ was a communist, for he was stating the economic philosophy of Karl Marx!

If you don’t have a copy of the Constitution, then you need to get one. They are on-line, for free. You need to not only read it, but to study it, before you run for office. You need to understand how many powers are expressly granted (by The People and The States) to the Federal Government, and that “all powers not expressly granted” in that document are “expressly reserved to the People, and to the States.” If you can’t grasp, and endorse that concept, don’t bother applying for the job.

Prepare to serve one or two terms. That’s enough. But bringing your department or your sphere to a smaller budget, sun-setting as many laws, taxes and agencies as possible which are not constitutional, and ending your time in office with a smaller government, means that you have been faithful in service to the Constitution, and to the freedom for our posterity.

Choose the office where you plan to serve.

Build a team of ten voters who will go to work for you. (Read the plan.)

Help other candidates work the same plan, forming alliances.

Reluctant to serve? You may be just the one we need. Please give it prayerful consideration.

If you are already a Team Leader, it’s time to canvass your entire team, one at a time, and ask them if they will consider running for any one of the following:

School board;

County commissioner;

City council

State legislature

The solution to our problems will not come from the politicians and bureaucrats who created them.

It’s time to clean house, and return to the Constitution!

Daniel New, Founder
Independent Conservative Voters
www.ICVUSA.com

Endnotes:

 1 Bork, Robert, Slouching Towards Gomorrah: Modern Liberalism and American Decline, Barnes and Noble, 1996.

<div style="float: right;
